Print Image Mapping

Print Image mapping is the process by which paper claim forms can be translated into HIPAA compliant electronic claim files. The paper claim forms are not actually printed to paper. The software which is used to create the claim forms is told to print the claim to a disk file instead of a printer. Once the file is on the disk, it is opened up and the data is located by row and column and mapped to a set of data fields. The data fields are then supplemented by lookup tables with static information required by the claim formats. The lookup tables contain such things as payers specific id numbers, claim recipient assigned identification numbers and so on. There may be variations in the numbers of lines that are printed on the form, by the billing software. There may be printer control characters which are used by the printer to format its output. This data must be identified and ignored by the mapping program. There may be times when the new formats require non static data which is simply not on the HCFA 1500 claim form. We have all heard horror stories of clearinghouses that filed to get claims processed for months. We know what types of data and claims will cause problems. We can tell you right away. In this instance there are usually other alternatives to the print image which can be used as input to other translating programs which we have created, such as HIPAAMagic or ANSIMagic.

Each successive iteration of electronic claim formats have been supersets of the ones which preceded them. This means that the lookup tables must contain data required by the latest format. It is our job atElectroniClaim® to determine what information is included in the claims and what needs to be provided. The software package has the ability to allow the end user to map the data or we can do it for you. Once the data has been mapped the user should not have to change this map as long as the processes which are used to create it are not changed. Contact us and we can look at your data. Normal HIPAA required business associates agreements must be executed for us to look at your data. Our privacy policies will apply to your test data. Contact us for a proposal. You will be glad you did.
